Resolutions 2011

6 Jan

What kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t post my new year’s resolutions for all to see? Well, a less predictable one, but that’s besides the point. So here they are, folks, my new year’s resolutions for the year 2011!

To follow through on my own personal writing instead of starting a piece and abandoning it half way. If I finished all of the pieces I’ve started, I’d have a writing portfolio full of original storied, concepts and scripts thicker than…thick.

To lose weight. What kind of person would I be if this wasn’t one of my resolutions?

To truly help others. I want to do some volunteer work, and also reach out to some people I know personally and help them through any tough times they may be having. I’m not always such a nice person, so I want to try and make up for my occasional awfulness.

To learn to cook. I love watching The Food Network and sometimes when I make myself lunch, or even just heat up a Lean Cuisine, I like to narrate what I’m doing in my head as if I was on my own cooking show. I’m a loser, but I think it’d be fun to be able to cook for my friends and have them asking for seconds, instead of them just asking for another go-around at the drive-thru.

To build my portfolio and strengthen my connections. This one sort of ties into the first one on my list, but I basically want to secure myself a job as much as possible for post-graduation. I don’t want to be unsure of my future come May 2012, I want to know where I’m going and have a plan–I want to be successful!

To stay focused. Both in life and with my school work. I want to earn stellar grades while immersing myself into the campus community as much as possible. I also want to do all of this without freaking out due to stress and work-overload.

Looks like I’ve got a hefty set of goals/resolutions. Gotta get crackin’!

So it seems as if I’m not a true blogger unless I write a post about the new year, but what in the world do I even write about? Do I mention all of the good things of 2010? Or all of the bad things I’m glad to say “good riddance” to? Perhaps I’ll write that cliche post that lays out all of my new year’s resolutions that I’ll just copy and paste for 2012 because we all know resolutions are just recycled and rarely kept. Or maybe I will write about my predictions for the new year in all different aspects such as technology, world events, sports teams and Joan Rivers’ face. But I consider myself to be a different kind of blogger…I like to stir the pot as opposed to just melting in it. So I have decided I will do something no one has ever done before in a new year’s blog post…I just haven’t thought of what that is yet…oh well.

Just kidding, kinda. I don’t want to keep you hanging too long, so I guess I’ll just list some of the things I hope to NOT see in 2011:

Spirit Airlines

An empty bank account

Terrorist Attacks

Gum that tastes like pies, cakes and muffins

That Scion car that looks like a cube, or is that a Nissan car that’s called the Cube? Either way, no boxes on wheels (except for the Mercedes G wagon which is one of the things I hope to see…in my driveway)

Christina Aguilera act

The Yankees win anything…not even a humanitarian award (they can donate as much money and help out in the community as much as they want because I like that, it’s a nice thing to do, just don’t give them any credit for it)

Svedka Vodka

Dog poo on my shoe

I’m sure there are more things to add to this list, but they clearly aren’t as important so I’ll just add them later on.

Happy new year everyone! Here’s hoping 2011 brings us all GREAT opportunities, chances and happiness.

With puppy love,

A Ditk

31 Dec

For all of you non-Spanish speakers out there, that title means goodbye 2009, hello 2010. Why the spanish you ask? Well, I have been spending my days in Cancun since the 28th, and will be here until the 4th, so I am celebrating New Year’s Eve in beautiful Mexico with my family and some good friends. I would be a pretty bad blogger if I didn’t take the time to reflect on the past year, and welcome in a new decade. Honestly, my memory sucks but I’m going to highlight some of the best and worst of the past decade, for me at least, so here it goes.

Good Times

I had my bat-mitzvah

I graduated middle school and high school

Got into college

Got into one of the most prestigious communications schools in the country

Decided what I want to do with my life

Joined a sorority

Made amazing new friends, but also kept some great old ones

Had my sweet16

My father got re-married

Giants won the superbowl

Mets made it to the playoffs…once.

Blink-182 got back together

Miley Cyrs, Miley Cyrus, Lady GaGa

The Life of A Ditk was founded

Bad Times

My grandfather passed away

My grandma broke her back

I herniated a disc

MJ died

Gained the Freshman 15 and thensome

Blink-182 broke up

Those lists are just to name a few, but I’m sure there are plenty of events that I missed.

So, here’s to 2010, a new year and a new decade. I wish you and yours a happy and a healthy one, and all my best.

Check back soon as I will be posting MANY stories from my vacation, so stick around for some laughs.

Also to come, my New Year’s Resolution. This should be interesting.

Until the ball drops…cheers!
